Distracted driving is a growing problem, with technological improvements and reliance on mobile phones and in-car “infotainment” packages constantly on the rise. Now, ironically, we are starting to see new technology being developed to combat this increasingly serious problem. An example is a new system from tech company Harman, which uses a camera to monitor drivers’ eyes while on the road. If a driver’s pupils dilate, it indicates multitasking or cognitive overload, i.e., too many distractions. The system reacts by disabling mobile devices and some features within the vehicle. How well the system works remains to be seen, but it is interesting to see new technology developing to counter the increasing problems created by distracted driving. Click here
